Impact of the absence of a gender perspective in the training of justice operators and its incidence on the impunity of violence against women in Ecuador

Abstract

This article analyzes the application of a gender perspective in the administration of criminal justice in Ecuador through the study of two emblematic judicial rulings. A deficiency in the training of justice operators was identified, leading to the persistence of stereotypes and biases in the interpretation and application of the law, as well as the normalization of gender-based violence within the judicial system. The research reveals structural limitations that hinder an effective approach to gender-based violence, including the lack of specialized courts and deficiencies in the collection and access to statistical information. The study concludes that it is essential to strengthen gender-sensitive training, implement normative and structural reforms, monitor and sanction discriminatory practices, ensure access to reliable information, and promote a cultural transformation within the administration of justice to guarantee compliance with international standards in the fight against gender-based violence.
